"It was definitely an unusual day," Briscoe reflected. "I wasn't feeling my best, and the car wasn't perfect either. I was dizzy at the start, but a pill helped me feel better. I've been battling something all week, and my voice is terrible, I'm sure."
As the race progressed, Briscoe's health improved, but he still had to navigate the track with caution, trying to avoid any mistakes.
The Road Ahead: Round of 8
Starting the Round of 8 in seventh place, Briscoe remains optimistic. He's just 14 points behind the cutline and believes the upcoming tracks suit his driving style better than the previous round's tracks, where he finished 10th, 4th, and 14th.
"I'm feeling positive about the next round," he said. "New Hampshire and the ROVAL were tough for us, but the upcoming tracks are more traditional. I think we have a real chance."
The Round of 8 will take Briscoe to Las Vegas, Talladega, and Martinsville, and he's hoping his two wins this season will carry him to the Championship 4 for the first time.
"I believe we can make it happen. We might need a win, but the playoffs are unpredictable. We'll give it our all and see where we end up."
And this is the part most people miss: Briscoe's story is a testament to the resilience and skill of these drivers. Despite illness and challenging tracks, he's still in the running for the championship.
