De speciale tornado-effecten bleken weliswaar indrukwekkend, het bleek ook dat als je één digitale wervelwind van dichtbij hebt gezien, je ze allemaal hebt gezien. Jo (Hunt) en Bill (Paxton) zouden eigenlijk hun echtscheiding moeten regelen, maar gaan liever samen met een groepje bevriende amateurmeteorologen (onder wie Hoffman), een stuk of wat verwoestende tornado's achterna. Prima acteurs hebben niet veel te doen, behalve rennen en schreeuwen. Naar een roman van Michael Crichton.
